My Name is Genesis Tillman
I’m a black nonbinary photographer and writer. I completed my Creative Writing degree at FSU in 2019, just before COVID had really kicked off in the U.S. When the virus caused the lock down, I picked up photography since I found it very grounding and calming during such an uncertain time.
Nature photography was originally what I started with. After a couple of years, I eventually began assisting professional photographers, doing street photography, documenting events — the list goes on. Now, I’m dipping my feet into gonzo journalism for the first time, meeting interesting people and groups, and finding unique events to document with my camera and write about.
I’ve always found myself in interesting situations — going out and talking to someone doing something different, or just finding a fun event to attend after asking some questions and doing some reading online.
I’m chasing stories that involve unique people and unique collectives, that circumvent what is considered to be traditional in terms of community building. My goal is to find communities that circumvent the status quo, groups that find joy in what it is that they love, and sharing it amongst those that feel the same. Collectives that do more with far less.
If you have or know of something that you’d interested in sharing with me, please don’t hesitate to contact me!
